The Estate, one of the most important of Gavi, Monferrato, Piemonte, very close to Serravalle Outlet and golf course Colline del Gavi extends over 188 acres planted with Gavi,
Monferrato Red with Albarossa, Gavi Spumante. In the middle of the Estate the villa landmark, built around 1750 with orangerie, italian gardens lake with lotus flowers. The Marques Sauli, an ancient and powerful family of Genoese bankers, are preparing the daughter's wedding. But the family house is not up to the bride's aspirations, or maybe the young husband is more ambitious. The decision is quick, let's build a beautiful villa in the centre of the estate; the name, not a problem, is "La Marchesa" in honour of the young bride; the chapel consecrated to the guardian angels, bigger than the old one, to ensure the safety of the peasant's soul, and the orangerie to preserve during wintertime the precious lemons are born. Everything seems bright and happy. The French Revolution is just around the corner, Napoleon, triumphant from Marengo probably stayed one night at La Marchesa, but also his glory is transitory and the new Italy, after the Wien congress, begins its industrial history: in the Novi silk boom, La Marchesa becomes the country house of the most important family in the area. Nowadays, with Giulini family, La Marchesa is back to its old splendour with the same lands as in 1750 (76 hectares, one of the biggest farm of Gavi), the chapel and the orangerie perfectly restored, the ancient Sauli house transformed in a agritourism with restaurant. 12 rooms with vintage furniture, 2 halls with great charm, in perfect silence in the middle of the vineyards with a wonderful view. And also a beautiful swimming pool, the Italian garden, the orchard, the lake with lotus flowers, wines extraordinary as extraordinary is the Gavi land, all is at disposal of who wants to have a wonderful country holiday, play golf, eat only typical dishes, organize weddings, meetings in the suggestive atmosphere of a great wine farm… as once upon a time. The vineyards extend in a unique body all around the villa. The characteristic aroma and taste of these wines is influenced by two important elements. The first is the nature of the soil, a mixture of calcareous clay and sand. The second is the climate, the hot Mediterranean sunshine is tempered by cool breezes blowing from the peaks of the Apennine mountains. The typical aroma of the Gavi wine is given by the contrast between a fruity perfume with great elegance and a dry body, exalted by the fermentation under controlled temperature and by the less than half of the solfites admitted by law. |
